Overcoming Imposter Syndrome

#LeadandLift | Episode 18 | Chabidaye Jaglal Ramnath

Do you remember the last time you were excited about something?

...a new job posting

...a business opportunity

...getting on stage to share your message

And then, that little voice in your head started talking, and you started listening.

Feelings of negativity increase in your mind; your past achievements seem unworthy and you don't step up and take the new opportunity because you feel unworthy.

Here’s what you’ll learn in this episode:

  • Do you have imposter syndrome?
  • The five subgroups of people affected by imposter syndrome
  • The eight ways to counter that negative voice
  • Reaching out and asking for support

I hope you enjoy this episode and it has given you awareness of the symptoms and tips to combat imposter syndrome.

Here’s a glance at this episode:

  • Imposter syndrome is when you feel that you’re inadequate and incompetent despite evidence that proves otherwise. Maybe you haven’t thought of yourself as a fraud or imposter but perhaps you brushed off your success as luck or being in the right place at the right time.
  • There are five subgroups of people that are affected by imposter syndrome: the perfectionist, the superwoman/superman, the natural genius, the soloist and the expert.
  • Celebrate your achievements. Be kind to yourself. Be mindful of the ways you treat yourself. Learn to take mistakes in stride. Take action. Don’t count on external validation. Review what you’ve recently accomplished. Talk about what you’re feeling.
  • When we start hearing these negative things, there is no shame in reaching out and asking for support. The last thing we want to do is to listen to that voice and go down a cycle of depression. It’s okay to put your hands up and say we need help.
