Lead and Lift's 100th Episode - Embarking on a Journey of Leadership Mastery

#LeadandLift | Episode 100 | Chabidaye Jaglal Ramnath

Welcome to one of the most special episodes of the Lead and Lift podcast: the 100th episode! Lead and Lift started as my contribution to sharing content about leadership, communication, and confidence, and with your help, the Lead and Lift podcast was ranked in the top 5% of the world. This has only been made possible because of you, my team, and the guest speakers.

This episode, I want to share with you the key things that I learned in the last two years because I believe that it will be as helpful for you right now wherever you are as it was helpful for me. Frequent listeners know that I always share an acronym along with the framework. I love doing this because it helps people remember. For this episode, think of the word SERVE.

Start with one step in the right direction

Start. Whatever dream or goal you have in mind, no matter how big or small it is, start it. Walk one step in the right direction and keep going. Lay down the foundation and build upon it as you go. As you start and keep going, you’re going to create momentum.

When I launched this podcast, I recorded a welcome episode and I knew that the team was going to help me with the editing but I had nothing else set up at the time. However, as I made that first episode, I knew I needed a second episode and a third so I started building up on that first step and automating the process along the way, improving on systems. I didn’t have perfect consistency, but I was happy where I was in that area. Now we’re a hundred episodes in and in the top 5%!

Enrol others in your vision

Enrol others. Having guests on the show not only provided a platform for other people to share their message but also taught me a very valuable lesson.

Most times we feel alone because we shut people out of our lives. When you open yourself up and listen to the people around you, you might discover that some of them are going through a similar thing as you. You might also discover some who are a little further on the journey. When you surround yourself with these people and enrol them in your goal, it makes the journey so much more beautiful.

You’ll receive insights, encouragement, and also the valuable realization that you’re not the only one going through your difficult experience. There are others who will understand what you’re going through.

Enrolling others in the journey will not only make the journey more enjoyable and more efficient, it will also bring growth for you and the people that you enrol.

“If you find people around you who are going through something similar or they've been through that already and they're a little further on the journey, you find that it makes the journey a little bit more beautiful because you know that you can get through it.” - Chabidaye Jaglal Ramnath

Get into a rhythm of repetition

Repetition builds skills. When I started the show, I only interviewed my friends. It was a good starting point as it was very comfortable speaking with them. It helped me develop my interview skills and find my style for the shows.

Guests have remarked that I had been a kind host, that I made them comfortable, and that made it easy for them to share their message. By doing that repetition in the past two years, I was able to improve my communication skills and my confidence.

Once you take the first step, keep on walking forward, and try to get yourself into a rhythm of repetition because repetition builds skills.

Vision provides clarity

The V in SERVE is Vision. To better demonstrate this key lesson, let me share with you the vision that I had for Lead and Lift.

In the first episode, I shared how my leadership journey started and how fulfilling it was to help someone achieve their goals even when they didn’t believe in themselves. That’s where my leadership passion started.

One of the reasons why I’m so passionate about leading and lifting others is that I once had a negative experience with a manager back in corporate. It came to a point that I had lost my confidence, I doubted myself and couldn’t even figure out who I was anymore. After going through that, I had a different perspective on life.

In my outro, I always say that you have the power to lead and lift others and that’s true. You are always given an opportunity to influence someone’s experience of life, whether you choose to or not. In one moment, you can choose through your words, behavior, and energy, how you’re going to influence another person - whether positively or negatively.

Notice how you could significantly impact a person’s day just by greeting them with a smile. Not just that, but other simple gestures like asking people how they are doing and waiting to hear the real answer behind the “I’m fine.”

“My vision for the show is to create more leaders, and have them lift the team, have them lift their family and everyone they meet.” - Chabidaye Jaglal Ramnath

Having a vision will help you by giving you clarity on what impact you desire to create with your words, behavior, and energy.

Be empowered, empower others

The last item in the framework is Empower. When you feel empowered, you become unstoppable. Things take time, but when you have clarity and empowerment, nothing can stop you from reaching what it is you want to achieve.

My greatest hope is that within the 100 episodes, you were able to hear a piece that was exactly what you needed to hear in that moment to give you empowerment and a new perspective.

Snowball into your potential

If you’ve ever built a snowman, then you know the process. It starts with a little ball of snow that gets rolled on and on, picking up more snow until it gets bigger and bigger. Even a huge snowman starts with a little ball of snow.

With that in mind, ask yourself these questions:

  • What can you start small today? Take one step and keep going. That consistency will compound into something big.

  • Who can you enrol for help and support? There are people around you who have the skills and experience that will help you get to where you want to be, it’s up to you to find them.

  • What new skills will you choose to develop through repetition? Repetition builds a habit and then it becomes automatic and takes less energy and time.

  • What accomplishments do you want to achieve? Take a moment, close your eyes, and visualize the end of the year. Think of what success would look like for you and focus on that vision.

  • How will you empower your team and the other people around you? Remember that you have the power to lead and lift others. Think of the people that you are leading or influencing, see their potential, believe in them, and help them become better.

It’s easy to visualize the things that we don’t want to happen, but with what we do want to happen, it takes a bit of effort and intention. Take the time to pause and think through what your vision is for your life.

Your life is a book and you are the author. You can choose to write anything that you want, you can fill the pages of your life with memories, experiences, and magical moments. Therefore, be intentional with the story that you want to create.
